Systems and Processes [AF]

Notes From Lesson

sensitivity important.
dlsr sensitivity makes taking pictures easier.

exposer mode (m,av,tv,p) is iportant

focus is important, can makepicture look bland/dull

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

taking a photograph:--(important things)
1.film speed (iso)
2.shutter speed (time) seconds
3.aperture (size of diaphram) f-
4.exposure reading/check
5.focus (auto/manual)
6.compse, frame and capture

|------|
|       +|-over
|       o|-spot on
|       -|-under
|------|

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shutter and aperture are inversely proportional:--

as you decrease the size of the hole(aperture) you must increase the
amount of time (shutter speed)

-ISO sets general light level
-aperutre determines depth of field
-shutter determines capturing movement
-you decide what that priority

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shallow depth of field = closer things in focus, background out of focus

Large depth of field = all is in focus

f stop greatly effects depth of field

large depth of field = 55mm @ F8

Shallows depth of field = 200mm @ F8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three factors that effect depth of field:--

1.Aperture size (Fnumber)
F1.4,                    F32
Large depth              Shallow depth

2.Lens focal length
smaller focal lens length, the larger the depth of field
ie. long telephoto llenses have a small depth of field

3.Image size, film or sensor
Smaller the image size, the larger the depth of fied,
ie a phone camera with a tiny sensor has infinite depthof field.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aperture priority is when you select the fstop and the camera chooses the shutter speed.
Shutter priority is the oppposite

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Manual exposer is great foor-
landscape
urban or city scapes
still life projects
portriats

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hassleblad 500CM (medium format)
was made to becompletely mechanical, it was taken to the moon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shallow depthof field portriat:--

Select widestpossible f number, eg F1.8
Select longest focal length, eg 55mm on a 18-55mm zoom
Focus on the eyes
Back lighting or "contre jour" increases "bokeh"
Be careful about inclusion and exclusion.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things that flatter a portrait,
Soft light
The right place (e.g saint annes on and overcast day)
Beaches
Telephoto lens
Angle up (Shooting from above)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bokeh effect, japanese term for blur or haze
Sharp front and Very blurry background.

Systems and processes

Use 7 different lighting techniques whilst shooting.
Use a Macro lens for a effective close up shot.
Make sure to create a miniature set up of work.
Commercial project.
Use highly reflective objects such as Chrome, Glass and other such things.
Historical objects + narrative (w/blackburn museum)
6 Objects
(Higher marks awarded for use of film camera and dark room)

Each photo presented must be accompanied by a maximum of 150 words describing.
These must be printed on A4 size paper with images separate to writing.
Photographs may be taken anywhere desired.
(20/20 test)

Must produce a power point slideshw of 20 slides, 1slide will have writing (title/own name)
and the other19 will be of pictures produced (must talk for 20 seconds for each picture about the photo)
